Review: The Knowledge of the Holy

“Your view of God is the most important thing about you.” As a former student of Northland International University, I heard this quote often from the chapel stage, the classroom, and in dorm room gatherings. It is a paraphrased quote from A.W. Tozer from his book The Knowledge of the Holy. This succinct book on the nature of God covers a vast myriad of topics covering the eminence and transcendence of God to the love, grace, and mercy of God.

To put it simply: they don’t write books like this anymore. This book is over 70 years old, but is pertinent for the modern Christian as well. Tozer does not waste words. Every other line is highlight worthy. For a first book of the year and a reading challenge, it was arduous. I’m not going to lie, it’s hard to count this book for this year since I started it last year, but I did the majority of my reading in it this year.

All in all, I would say the book is accessible and is something that Christians should generally consider reading. The Knowledge of the Holy is just over 100 pages and has many chapters in it. From my experience, I would consider it a great book to read alongside as a companion to your daily Bible reading. All in all, I would say that Tozer does a pretty great job of exposing what each attribute of God that he covers means and how it applies to the Christian. On Goodreads, I gave this 5/5 stars. I would officially rate it 4.5/5 stars, but Goodreads doesn’t allow for half stars.
